Film

The Art of Chairmaking

/ About the project

This short film follows Jack O’Neill, founder of MEMA, a contemporary furniture design and carpentry studio based in Ouseburn, Newcastle. Over the course of a few days, Wilderness captured Jack’s process as he transforms raw timber into a finished dining chair – from first cuts to final assembly.

With expert knowledge of materials and a keen eye for form and function, MEMA specialises in handmade pieces. The film highlights not only the skill of woodworking but also the philosophy behind the craft: patience, precision, and a respect for materials that results in timeless, functional design.
