Local Heroes: Withington Walls is a film that explores how public art can positively impact the community by making it accessible to everyone. Ed Wellard and Oskar Walin lead a community-centred art project focused on brightening the streets of Withington in south Manchester, encouraging people to enjoy street art, and bringing Withington’s diverse population together. This story is about how we can make tangible improvements in people's lives while prioritising human connection and creativity.

Wilderness Studio spent the summer with Withington Walls and documented the efforts, the challenges and the magic of this unique art project.

The film was shortlisted for a Smiley Charity Film Award in 2025 and has now been accepted into the BFI National Archive.
